What is Hardware and its Types?

HARDWARE

The computer's physical parts that we can see or touch are called hardware. It refers to all physical parts of the computer by which the computer runs its function. Hardware does nothing without software. Because all the instruction is given by the software to hardware what to do. Keyboard and mouse are examples of hardware.

EXAMPLES OF HARDWARE

These are two types of hardware:
  •     External hardware
  •     Internal hardware

External Hardware

Hardware that we can see on the outside of a computer is called external hardware.

1. Monitor

The monitor is an output device that is a display screen that provides all information in a text or pictorial foam. There are many uses of the monitor. Some are given below. read more...

1. Use of monitor for web development

2. Use of monitor for gaming

3. Use of monitor for data entry......etc

2. Keyboard

The keyboard is an output device by which we put information or data in text, words, or letter foam into the computer. The keyboard is of 2  main categories... basic keyboard and extended keyboard. Different types of technology keyboards also exist. There are many uses of the keyboard but the main use of the keyboard is typing or text communication. read more...

3. Mouse

The mouse is also an output device. It is a small and movable device by which we control the things which we do on the computer. The mouse has two buttons and a wheel between in buttons. We use the mouse to run different programs on computers, laptops, and TV by clicking. read more...

4. CPU

CPU stands for Central Processing Unit. It is an output device. It is the brain of the computer that performs all types of data processing operations. It controls all types of operations in the computer. Without this computer cannot run. There are many types of CPUs. Some are given below. read more...

1. Single-core CPU     (oldest type)

2. Dual-core CPU

3. Hexa-core CPU

4. Octa-core CPU

5. Speaker

Speaker is an output device that allows a user to listen to audio sounds which play on the computer. Some speakers are designed to connect with any kind of sound system while some can be hooked up only with a computer. There are many types of speakers but some names of these types are as follows. read more...

1. Bluetooth speakers
2. USB speakers
3. Dynamic speakers
4. Electrostatic speakers

6. Scanner

The scanner is an input device that usually connects to the computer. The scanner is used to scan images, documents, files, and convert hard copy to soft copy hard copy is your physical image and a soft copy is a digital image. Four common types of a scanner are as follows. read more...

1. Flatbed
2. Sheet Fed
3. Handheld
4. Drum scanners
computer laptop scanners
7. Microphone

The microphone is also called a mic. It is an input device that converts our sound into digital foam in the computer. We use the sound card to connect the microphone to the computer (HARDWARE). Many types of microphones are available in the market but some names are as follows. read more...

1. Dynamic microphone
2. Small diaphragm microphone
3. Large-diaphragm microphone.

8. Printer

The printer is an output device that converts the soft data into hard copy. It is an electronic machine that accepts the text images from the computer and then converts them into a medium such as on paper.  Some types of printers are as follows. readmore...

1.  Laser printer
2. Solid ink printer
3. LED printer
4. A home inkjet printer
5. Dot matrix printer

INTERNAL   HARDWARE

The hardware that we see on the inside of the computer is called internal hardware.

1. Motherboard

The motherboard is the main circuit board of the computer. All the computer components are plugged in or connected with it. Without it, none of the computer pieces, such as CPU, GPU, or HARD DRIVE could interact.

2. Processor

It is also called a CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT.  The processor works like a human brain. It is a silicon chip fixed on the motherboard. Its function is to carry out a set of instructions and process the data efficiently and accurately.

3. Memory

Memory consists of electronic chips. It stores instructions and data so that the CPU can process them. It is the working space of the computer. It consists of two types.

        1. RAM

RAM (Random Access Memory) is a temporary storage area for data before and after it is processed. It is volatile and attached to the motherboard.

         2. ROM

ROM (Read Only Memory) is a permanent storage area that consists of start-up instruction of the computer and information about its hardware devices.  It is fixed on the motherboard and it is non-volatile.

4. Sound card

It is an internal hardware device that allows a computer to receive sound in digital form and reproduce it through speakers. Speakers, headphones, and microphones are attached to the sound card.

5. Modem

The modem is an internal hardware device. It is used to transmit digital data over telephone wires. Usually, it is used for dial-up internet connection. Telephone cables are also attached to the modem.

6. Expansion slots

An expansion slot is a long narrow socket on the motherboard into which different expansion cards can be plugged.  3 different types of expansion cards are as follows.

1. Industry Standard Architecture

2. Peripheral Component Interconnect

3. Accelerated Graphic Port
